SunBoy’s mission is more than providing cleaning and maintenance services. We also feel a need to educate pool owners and pool users about certain pool-related topics. Today, we want to talk about why we are strongly against swimming in a pool where algae is present.

Algae in Pool

Algae can form easily if a pool isn’t regularly cleaned and serviced. However, other external factors such as a cyclone, flood and other weather conditions can lead to algae forming in a pool unexpectedly. The worst-case scenario is that your pool water will turn green but before that happens, you will probably notice greenish particles at the bottom of your pool.

Here’s why you should NEVER swim in a pool where there’s algae:

1. Skin & Other Health Issues

Algae happens due to an accumulation of debris. While it is believed that algae isn’t harmful by itself, there are bacterias and viruses that feed on it. If Algae is present in a pool, it means that there’s bacteria, toxins and most probably viruses. These are harmful and can cause skin rashes and more severe damage. Furthermore, viruses and bacteria can cause infections like fever, diarrhea, eye irritation, respiratory infections, etc.

2. Injuries

Algae is very slippery and if you are not careful, you can slip and hurt yourself badly. Swimmers have often ended up with bruises, cuts, fractures or even worse; broken bones.

3. You Can’t See What’s In The Water

If there’s algae in your pool and if the water has turned green, you will not see what’s under the surface. There may be debris that can injure you or you may find insects as well. You will be prone to injury because you won’t see what’s in your swimming pool.
